Virtual Reality Future in Indonesia

Slowly but surely, the presence of Virtual Reality (VR) technology, Augmented Reality (AR), to Mixed Reality (MR) has provided new choices. Not only for the gaming industry but other general industries. Although the number of startup activists targeting VR, AR and MR technology is still relatively small, its presence in Indonesia has become more familiar and widely used by the general public.

In the session this time, DailySocial presented Shinta VR Andes Rizky Co-Founder to thoroughly explore what VR and AR technology is and how Indonesia stands for current VR and AR technology.

Technological development
Since the 1960s, this technology has been developed by a handful of people. Even though it is not yet commercial and is mostly used for education, construction and health, VR technology is quite familiar to use in the United States. In the 1980s VR technology then came back with more sophisticated products, but once again it was not widely used by the general public.

"In 1987, through the VR product made by visual artist Jaron Lanier, VR technology has begun to be developed again. But because the price is very expensive, only certain people can enjoy this technology, "said the Andes.

Although it does not yet have a seamless appearance like now, VR and AR technology in the 80s, have begun to use sensors to move the body to then be implemented into the technology.

Unlike VR which is widely used by the public, AR technology is actually more widely used for military purposes to private institutions. His ability to record all movements is also widely used by construction to examine the dosage to the right needs for building a building or house.

"If currently AR technology is far more familiar to be used for commercial purposes, formerly AR technology is fairly exclusive and only certain people can use it," said the Andes.

Today, thanks to the popularity of the Pokemon Go game, AR technology is not only used by many adults. Many children are getting familiar with this technology. Not only for games, but also for education and other entertainment.

The development of VR and AR technology then gave birth to new technology which is a fusion of the two technologies, namely Mixed Reality (MR). This relatively new technology is flexibly capable of producing unique movements, derived from AR and VR intelligence.
